Bee venom (cosmetic extract)

A 2025 peer-reviewed study published in Cureus evaluated a face serum containing bee venom, royal jelly and manuka honey over 8 weeks in 40 women aged 40–55. After 8 weeks, 72% of participants agreed the product improved their fine lines and wrinkles, 83% said their skin looked healthier, and 89% described their skin as softer and more supple (O'Gorman et al., Cureus, 2025). An earlier 12-week study published in Clinical Interventions in Aging reported statistically significant reductions in total wrinkle area, wrinkle count and average wrinkle depth measured by Visioline imaging in 22 women using a bee-venom serum (Han et al., 2015).

Hyaluronic acid

A 2022 literature review in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology summarised multiple randomised controlled trials of topical hyaluronic acid and concluded that hyaluronic acid is well tolerated and effective for improving skin hydration, the appearance of fine lines and overall skin quality. One RCT cited in the review (n=40 women with mild-to-moderate signs of aging) showed improvement in skin appearance versus placebo after 30 days of daily topical hyaluronic acid use (Bukhari et al., 2022).

Rosehip oil (Rosa canina)

A 2025 pilot study published in Cosmetics (MDPI) used VISIA imaging to measure facial skin parameters before and after topical rosehip oil treatment. Researchers reported reductions in mean wrinkle scores across several age groups, with the largest improvements seen in participants with deeper baseline wrinkles, along with visible declines in UV-induced spots. The authors linked these effects to the high carotenoid and antioxidant content of cold-pressed Rosa canina seed oil (Cosmetics, MDPI 2025).

Jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis)

A 2024 study in Frontiers in Pharmacology using an ex-vivo human skin organ culture model found that topical jojoba wax increased the synthesis of pro-collagen III and hyaluronic acid in skin tissue, and reduced levels of key pro-inflammatory cytokines. The authors concluded that jojoba wax shows measurable dermo-cosmetic activity beyond simple emollient function (Tietel et al., 2024).

Shea butter (Butyrospermum parkii)

A clinical trial published in the Hong Kong Medical Journal evaluated a moisturising cream containing shea butter extract in patients with atopic dermatitis over 4 weeks. The trial documented improvements in skin hydration and reductions in pruritus and quality-of-life impact, supporting shea butter's role as an effective skin emollient (Hon et al., 2015). Shea butter is widely cited in dermatology literature for its emollient and skin-conditioning fatty acid profile.
